February 14, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Members of the Gay Liberation Network marched Sunday morning outside of Chicago's Holy Name Cathedral.

Organizers say they wanted to highlight the role church leadership has played in promoting inequality.

Sunday is called "Freedom to Marry Day," and some picketers carried signs supporting gay marriage. Others had signs reading "Gay rights are civil rights."

Organizers say Cardinal George, and his predecessors have opposed laws to expand gay rights in Illinois.
