Get involved in Promoting Chicago's Participation In Anti-Prop 8 "Day of Decision" Action

GLN permalink posted March 27, 2009

As reported in the last GLN News, cities around the country are mobilizing for "Day of Decision" actions on the night that the California Supreme Court rules on whether or not to uphold anti-gay Proposition 8.

Here in Chicago, our action will be at 7 PM on the night the court issues its decision, outside of the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted.

The court will make its decision sometime between now and June 3rd, and will let us know that a decision is forthcoming the day before they announce what the decision is.

There are three main reasons for organizing Day of Decision actions:

1) If we win, we will try to spread the positive California example elsewhere

2) If we lose, we will send a message that LGBT people won't quietly accept a wholesale assault on our rights

3) By organizing now, rather than just spontaneously reacting the night of the decision, we ensure that the action that night is as large and powerful as possible – and send a message to the court in the days leading up to their decision that there will be real consequences if they take away our rights.
