GLN permalink 11-19-2009

Several cities including Chicago are mobilizing marches and vigils to protest the gratuitous murder a few days ago of Jorge Steven Lόpez Mercado, a gay Puerto Rican teenager. Lόpez, well known as gay in his hometown of Caguas, Puerto Rico, was decapitated, his limbs severed, and his body burned.

Univision Television reported that police investigator Ángel Rodríguez Colón said (as translated into English), “These types of people, when they enter this lifestyle and go out into the streets know that this could happen.”

The Gay Liberation Network and several other organizations will be joining Chicago’s event organized by Dulce Quintero of Orgullo en Accion and Ed Negron and Ruben Feliciano of Boricua Pride/ALMA:

4 PM – 6 PM
Sunday, November 22.
Assemble at Division & California,
then march to the Humboldt Park Boat House
