Meet Cindy Sheehan & Stand With Bradley Manning in Chicago!
GLN permalink 5-28-2013
On Monday, June 3 we invite you to help welcome to Chicago renowned peace activist Cindy Sheehan and her "Tour de Peace" cross-country bike caravan from the West Coast to DC. She will be headlining Chicago's participation in the "International Week of Action for Bradley Manning" at 5:30 PM, Monday, June 3 at the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park (Columbus Drive, just south of Jackson Blvd.).
Starting on April 4, the anniversary of the day her son, Casey, died in the illegal and immoral U.S. war on Iraq, Sheehan and her team began bicycling in a cross-country protest. By courageously calling out Presidents Bush and Obama for their wars on Middle Eastern and South Asian countries, Sheehan has nicely complimented the courageous whistle-blowing of Private Bradley Manning, who exposed U.S war crimes across those regions in documentary evidence given to www.wikileaks.org
Manning's leaks...
*** Showed U.S. participation in murder and torture in Iraq [2];
*** Helped spur the "Arab Spring" of rebellions across North Africa by exposing the dirty dealings of the Bush and Obama administrations with dictators in the region;
*** Showed that the Obama administration knew [2] of the impending coup against Honduras's elected government in 2009, yet did nothing to stop it, let alone the wave of violence initiated by the coup regime once it took over; and,
*** Showed that both Obama and Bush have consistently promoted American domination over the world versus human rights.
...and Cindy Sheehan...
*** Has been a courageous voice against war, regardless of which president waging it. Amid all the patriotic hoopla following the U.S. conquering of Baghdad, Sheehan set up Camp Casey in President Bush's home town of Crawford, TX, helping lead a revival of the anti-war movement;
*** When many left the anti-war movement following the election of President Obama, Sheehan denounced Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan, and his escalating drone strikes in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and elsewhere.
*** She continued her anti-war activism and countered all the hype about President Obama bringing "change," running for election against his pro-war leader in the House, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
During her bike caravan across the U.S., Sheehan has largely paralleled the famous U.S. Route 66, whose eastern terminus is in Chicago's Grant Park, right by the Buckingham Fountain where we will be rallying on June 3.
June 3 is also the first day of Bradley Manning's trial, and we will have report backs from participants in the Ft. Meade, MD June 1st rally in solidarity with Bradley Manning.
Cindy Sheehan and Bradley Manning what a marvelous pair of heroes we get to celebrate! Please join us at 5:30 PM, Monday, June 3 at Buckingham Fountain in Chicago's Grant Park (Columbus Drive, just south of Jackson Blvd.).
